CHILDREN’S COURT Youth Placed On Probation For Disqualified Driving

For driving while disqualified a youth, aged 16, was placed on probation for 18 months when he appeared before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Children’s Court during April. Another youth, aged 16, was placed on probation for 18 months on a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse. Two youths, aged 16, were placed on probation for a year on charges of behaving in a disorderly manner and theft

On a complaint that he was not under proper control, a boy, aged 10, was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare, as was another boy of similar age who appeared on a charge of unlawfully taking a bicycle. A 13-year-old boy, who was deemed to be a delinquent child, was also committed and restitution amounting to £5 9s was ordered.

Two boys and a girl, their ages ranging from five months to four years, who were found to be living in an environment detrimental to their physical well-being, were placed under Child Welfare supervision for two years. Also placed under supervision for two years were a boy, aged 15. on charges of burglary, a boy, aged 11, charged with theft,and a baby girl who appeared on a complaint that she was an indigent child. Supervision for 18 months was ordered in the case of a 15-year-old boy charged with theft He was also ordered to make restitution of £9 0s 7d.

Two boys, aged 13 and 15, were placed tinder supervision for 12 months on complaints that they were not under proper control, as was a boy, aged nine, on a complaint that he was delinquent. Similarly dealt with were two girls, aged 14, on charges of theft, a boy, aged 14, on a charge of indecent assault and an 11-year-old boy who wilfully gave a false alarm of fire.

A girl, aged 14, and five boys, their ages ranging from 13 to 16, were admonished and discharged when they answered charges of theft. Also admonished and discharged were a 17-year-old girl who faced three charges of credit by fraud, two 16-year-old boys charged with burglary, a boy, aged 16, who unlawfully took a truck, and a 15-year-old boy who unlawfully entered a car.

On charges of theft two girls, aged 15 and 16, were admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare, as were another girl, aged 14, on a charge of arson, and a boy, aged 15, charged with unlawfully getting into a car. Fines were imposed as follows:

A boy, aged 16, on a charge of driving at a speed which might have been dangerous was fined £5 and disqualified for one year; two 16-year-old boys, charged with theft, were fined £lO and another boy of similar age was fined £9: a 15-year-old boy, charged with wilful damage and driving a car in a dangerous manner,

was fined a total of £2O, -his licence was cancelled for two years and he was ordered to make restitution of £10; another 15-year-old boy, who drove in a manner which might have been dangerous,, was fined £2 and his licence was cancelled for 12 months; a boy, aged 16, found drunk in a public place, was fined £1 and ordered to pay costs 15s.
