BAD DRIVING ALLEGED

Contractors Criticised

The dangers of inconsiderate driving by Ministry of Works reading contractors will be drawn to the attention of the District Commissioner of Works (Mr D. B. Dallas) by the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee.

The committee agreed at a meeting last evening that many lorry drivers caused unwarranted interference with the travelling public while working on reading projects.

Mr J. A. Fraser said that this was something that always happened on road construction and reconstruction jobs when there were no detours. This was especially important, for in Christchurch there was much road work to be done and the amount would probably increase. Motorists must be given every consideration.

Mr R. K. Reddy said some contractors used the roads they worked on as raceways. This was more noticeable with private companies because more was to be gained by working faster.
