Reorganising Power Supply Industry
From discussions among interested parties, proposals for a new pattern or organisation for the distribution of electricity were being examined, said the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand), in a letter before the Waimairi County Council at its monthly meeting.
The Minister’s letter was in reply to a request from the council for an indication as to what had happened to the recommendations of the Stanton report, which considered the reorganisation of the distribution of electricity. “Since becoming Minister of Electricity, I have given these problems of organisation much consideration, and have tried, wherever opportunity has arisen, to bring together interested organisations to try to find common
■reas of agreement,” the Minister said.
He assured the council that the Stanton report had not been lost sight of. There were some features of it that drew considerable criticism from the industry, and did not appear to be applicable. Thoughful people within the industry and in local government were now much more aware of problems troubling various bodies, including Waimairi, and the need to provide a long-term remedy. He hoped that the parties most concerned would themselves help to solve the long-standing difficulties that led to the setting up of the Stanton commission. A deputation was appointed by the council, to meet the Minister next year, to put forward the council's views.
