INFANTS’ FOOTWEAR

Manufacture InChch. A Christchurch manufacturing firm, M. O’Brien and Company, Ltd., will make infants’ shoes later this year. In the past Infant shoes have been imported from Britain. The company’s managing director (Mr M. F. O’Brien) said yesterday that ■ moulding plant from England was due later this year. The weekly capacity of the plant could be 6000 pairs, if three shifts were worked. Mr O’Brien said the processs was very similar to the direct vulcanising of soles, except that polyvinyl chloride instead of rubber was injected on to the lasted uppers. Initially, his firm would make infants* shoes from sizes four to ten in full and half sizes.
