Misjudge Sprints Well
Misjudge attracted attention to his lightweight’s chance in the Ashburton club’s Maronan Handicap with a strong run over six furlongs at Riccarton yesterday. Ridden by A. H. Eastwood, he sped over six furlongs on the No. 6 grass in lmin 17 2-5 sec. He started in a wide gap behind Filspar (M. McCann) and Butesail Blue, but was almost alongside Filspar at the end. Misjudge ran his last three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Filspar recorded lmin 19 3-ssec for the six furlongs and 40 l-ssec for the final three. Jester Jinks (K. Drummond) and Fibber <D. Tucker) took lmin 24see for six furlongs, but quickened for the last three furlongs in 49 4-ssec. Jester Jinks is a form runner in the Seafield Handicap at Ashburton, and will come in for more confident backing If the ground is heavy. He was a good third when fresh af Walmate last month.
We’li Find Out (W. Jackson) and Lovely Clover (B. Collins) led Silver Kingdom (R. B, Taggart) over six furlongs in lmin 21 2-ssec, the final three in 40 4-Ssec, QUICKENED Flair Go (C. T. Wilson) took lmin 52 l-ssec for the mile, but after a leisurely start She quickened to run the last six furlongs with Malecite (Mrs V. Clutterbuck) in lmin 22 4-ssec, the final three in 41sec. Tixall (R. Moir) and Royal Master (A. Swanson) sprinted six furlongs in lmin 22 2-ssec. Not Guilty (D. J. Thistoll) joined them for the last five furlongs, the final three furlongs in 41 1Royal Master and Tixall will meet in the first division of the Maiden Stakes at Ashburton. Pawnee (J. Kerkvliet), with the outside running, shaded Shoshone (F. H. Skelton) finishing sox furlongs in lmin 23 2- the final three in 40sec. Time and Tide (B. Collins) shaped well in running the final three of five furlongs in 38 3- On looks and form he should be a formidable lightweight In the Seafield Handicap; at Ashburton. Natter (N. Cowles), another fit sprinter for the Seafield Handicap recorded 38 2-ssec for the last three of four furlongs Lady Velvet (F. H. Skelton) led Super Mahal (D. Tucker) by a neck, arid then there was a length and a half to Vijay Mani (W. H. Beck) at the end of half a mile. They recorded
38 4-ssec for the last three furlongs. DEBUT Lady Velvet, a half-sister to Cumberland, will make her race debut in the Lyndhurst Handicap, for two-year-olds, at Ashburton. Manana (B. Collins) ran three furlongs in 40 4-ssec. He has thrived since his Waimate Cup win last month. Millie Small (R. Moir) and Avobelle (A. Swanson) sprinted five furlongs, the last three in 40sec. The imported Royal Student (F. H. Skelton) followed in 39 l-Ssec, going about his work keenly. The stablemates. Gold Shower <R. Murphy) and May Wyne (F. H. Skelton) ran in from the three furlongs on terms in 38 3-ssec. SCHOOLING Mainroyal (R. A. Williams) and Dotterel (C. M. Williams) jumped three brush fences including the double at a strong pace. Mainroyal will have his first race for the season in the steeplechase at Ashburton. Gallantly (C. M. Williams) jumped eight hurdles, accelerating towards the end of a workmanlike test. Prince Callan and Suede, both members of C. McDonald’s team, and both ridden by A. Swanson, were given solo runs over six hurdles. Both were inclined to run their hurdles down, but that should not be evident when they appear in company. They will make hurdling debuts at Ashburton.
