DRIVER DIES
Plunge Into Dam (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 20. A man was killed when his car left the Alexandra-Rox-burgh highway this afternoon and plunged into Butchers Dam. He was Alan Robert Finlayson, aged 38, of Eastbourne street, Dunedin. The car apparently failed to take a bend and dived into the dam, which is the main water supply for Alexandra. No-one saw the accident but a passing motorist saw skid marks in the gravel, stopped and saw the roof of the car in the dam, 20 feet below road level.
The man, Mr Adamson, of Timaru, who was driving a New Zealand Express Company van, dived into the dam. He was joined by another motorist, but both were unable to rescue Mr Finlayson. Over Cliff The manager of Winstone Limited’s quarry at Tauranga was killed when the heavy truck he was driving plunged over a 400 ft drop at the quarry at 10 a.m. today. He was W. C. Hoyle, of Tauranga.
