SCORING DROPS

Smallbore Match

Shooting in annual competition for the Greig Shield, in the first of the two-match series for the current season, the Christchurch Association beat the North Canterbury smallbore team by thirty-seven match points.

Although the Christchurch score was good enough to win the match, it was the lowest since the introduction of the smaller bull seven years ago. Undoubtedly, the performance of marksmen who were competing in their first open representative team shoot, did much to lower the average, but there was a remarkable absence of possibles from the more experienced shooters. The only possibles were recorded by L. Key for Christchurch and J. A. Neale, a first-year South Island representative, for North Canterbury.

R. E. Taylor, the Christchurch team captain, was a little unlucky. After dropping his first counting shot, he scored inner bulls with his remaining nineteen shots. Taylor’s consistently high standard of marksmanship is all the more remarkable as he is now entering his fortieth year of competitive shooting. Christchurch.—l. Millar 184.9, R. Stanley 199.15, L.
