HASTINGS. Vigour showed that he will again be hard to beat at Awapuni on Saturday when he galloped a solid round on the plough at Hastings yesterday. Working with Elucidation, which also pleased, Vigour revelled in his work over the final furlong. The top-weight in the Members’ Handicap, Princess Talaria, also pleased, as did Sorcery, Black Knight and Deep Blue The plough and course proper were in good winter order. Princess Taiaria (Donaghue) took 53 2-ssec for a half-mile, increasing her speed from the three in 39 2-ssec. She is at top form at present. Abdication (Gough) had the better of Damar (K. Cullen) revelled In his work while galloping with Elucidation (Mingins) over a round on the plough in Imin 41 3-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. It was an excellent trial. Koral (Hillis) and Turtle (M. Lawson) worked over a mile at three-quarter pace. Sorcery (Marsh) and Emir (R. Grantham) both worked well when galloping half a mile in 51 3-ssec, Sorcery moved freely and appears very fit. High Disdain (Whittingtori) was travelling well two lengths clear of Dark Song (Anderson) after a mile in Imin 51 3-ssec. They took 41 l-ssec for the last three. Dark Song was hard ridden over the final furlong. Deep Blue (K. Cullen), which worked well on Tuesday, again pleased when beating Katjang (McMenamin) over a fast halfmile in 50 4-ssec. Small Profit The Banks Peninsula Racing Club made a profit of f 49 last year, the chairman, Mr W. Bulman, says in his annual report. Although the profit is small, it contrasts with losses in the previous seven years. The profit is attributed mainly to the change in T.A.B. profit distribution and an increased number of membership subscriptions.
