FINE TRIAL AT LEVIN
Gus, Mukupai Work Well "The Press” Special Service LEVIN. Gus and Mukupai, rival candidates for the Members’ Handicap at Awapuni on Saturday, completed their final trials soundly at Levin yesterday. Work was done 30 feet out on the course proper, which had been cutting out badly, but which had firmed considerably under a severe frost. Gus (W. D. Skelton) started keenly over five furlongs, but was eased at the finish. He ran the final half-mile in 55sec and the last three furlongs in 42 Mukupai (K. A. Aitken) was not hurried over six furlongs in Imin 27 3-ssec, the final halfmile in 57 l-ssec and the last three furlongs in 43sec..
