MARKING WOOL BALES
Farmers Asked Not To Use Red
Sheep farmers have been asked to avoid the use of red in marking their wool bales. In asking members to pass this information on to their branches, the chairman of the meat end wool executive of North Canterbury Federated Farmers (Mr W. N. Dunlop ) said yesterday that the directive was aimed at adhering to certain colours in the identification of New Zealand wool bales. A member of a Christchurch woolbroking firm said farmers were being asked not to use red because once the wool had been sold, the bales had to carry a shipping brand. This was done in red. Most farmers used black to mark their bales, and the vendor’s and shipping brands were distinct, but if both brands were red, there could be confusion.
