WINSCOMBE QUALIFIED

Winscombe, which has been off the scene since July of last year, will begin another campaign at Ashburton next Saturday week. Mr R. H. Negus’ Trovato gelding—to date a failure on the flat—will start his five-year-old racing In the Hinds Hack Hurdles.

Yesterday Winscombe qualified for jumping races with a sound display over six flights of hurdles at Riccarton. He took no risks—leaving plenty of daylight between himself and his fences—but made no mistakes.

A. R. Swanson, who rode Winscombe in yesterday’s school, might not be able to take the mount at Ashburton. If Prince Callan or Suede gain qualifying tickets on Saturday morning he will probably ride one of them in the Hinds Hack Hurdles.
