Record Efforts In 1967
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 15. The acting-chairman of the Exports and Shipping Council (Mr A. T. Gandell) said today that export shipments from New Zealand next year would create “a record to beat all records.”' The peak months would be March, April and May.
The council, which met today, was concerned about delays which were likely to result.
The acting-chairman of the Overseas Shipowners’ Committee (Mr T S. Marchington), said no solution had really been found to the problem of peak-export periods. Shipments of refrigerated dairy .produce by Conference Lines’ vessels are estimated to be 293,000 tons for the 12 months to the end of August 1967.
Shipments of apples and pears for the 1965-66 season amounted to 2,769,000 bushels. A total of 120,000 bushels remain to be shipped. The Apple and fear Board considers it too early to make any forecasts for the 1966-67 season.
Shipments of wool for the season to the end of April last were 1,386,000 bales, com pared with 1,257,000 for the corresponding period of last year. It is estimated that 50,000 bales remain to be sold at
the final sale at Auckland on June 22-24.
