U.S.S.R. POLL
Conclusion Of Voting
(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) MOSCOW, June 13. The Communist Party swept to its usual landslide victory today in Parliamentary elections in which the former Soviet Premier, Mr Nikita Khrushchev, cast a vote for the men who helped to eject from power in 1964. The Premier, Mr Alexei Kosygin, the party secretarygeneral, Mr Leonid Brezhnev, President Nikolai Podgorny and other top government and party officials wore re-elected to seats on the country’s Supreme Soviet (Parliament). The party endorsed every one of the 1517 Communist and “non-party” candidates for a seat in the two-chamber Parliament. The percentage of voters who endorsed the hand-picked tickets will be announced later this week. But the vote was expected to follow the traditional pattern with a more than 99 per cent turnout
Japanese Cars. Japan produced 1,937,858 cars last year, an increase of 10.5 per cent, the Japan Automotive Industrial Association announced. The steep increase was attributed to high domestic demand for passenger cars, as well as booming car exports.—Reuter.
