DAVIES CUTS TRAINING

(JT.Z. Pratt Aitociation) AUCKLAND. Muscular trouble in his right foot has forced the national mile champion, J. L. Davies, to cut his training by half in the last few weeks. Davies, who has bruised a muscle near his big toe, said that he was limited to runs of only four or five miles and his weekly total was about 50 miles. “However, I run these short ones pretty hard," he said. Davies, whose training this winter has been frustrated by injuries, had just recovered from Achilles tendon trouble which had affected both legs for weeks.

High Charge.—An elephant charged and killed a Swiss coffee farmer near the Taita hills in Southern Kenya after he had shot its companion.
