SOCCER TRAINING SQUAD ANNOUNCED
A squad of 22 players has been selected to train under Mr R. Carter In preparation for Canterbury’s future senior and under 23 soccer fixtures. The squad will work tn conjunction with the under 18 players already in training. ' The squad, announced by the sole selector (Mr V. Smith), Is: O. Nuttridge, A. Westwood. R. Binns, L. Sayers, A. Hawthorne, A. Gowans, G. Griffiths, B. Gowans, G. Donaldson, T. Riley, C. Martin, C. Jones, K. Pahi, R. Bruce, W. Yates, G. Taylor. A. Cain, G. Spiers, R. Taylor. T. Conley, J. Logue and A. Brooks. A New Brighton B team will replace Wigram in the second division soccer grade on Saturday, said Mr R. Storer at last evening’s meeting at the Canterbury Football Association’s Management Committee. New Entry Mr Storer said that NewBrighton had a surplus of players and wished to enter the team to avoid a bye. The new team will not be able to win competition points. A letter from the Wigram secretary (Mr M. J. Walker) said that his club was forced
to withdraw because transfers away from the base had been severe.
A request to grant free transfers to Wigram players who wished to play for other grades was approved. Burnham was awarded two points because of Wigram’s default on Saturday.
Benefit Fund The C.F.A. gave £lO 10s to inaugurate a benefit fund for the relatives of the late Mr V. Smith. A benefit match will be played later in the season.
