PLOUGHING AT METHVEN

Main Event To P. Carter

The Atlantic Silver Plough qualifying event held at Methven yesterday was won by P Carter, of Greenpark, with 148 J points, from E. Croy, of Wakanui (142 2/3) and another Greenpark farmer, G Carter (134 1/3). There were some excellent plots ploughed in the exhibition, but some of these were sploit by poor feering or finishing.

The contest was held in fine, cold conditions and the ground was in excellent order. The judges for the qualifying event were Messrs A. L Coleman of Christchurch, D. Stewart, of Rakaia, and L. Skevington, Ashburton. Competitors in the plain ploughing events handled their work well but a disappointing feature of the section was the limited number of entries. The judges in this section were Messrs T. Magson, of Rakaia, and G. H. Fraser, Ashburton.

Results of the plain ploughing section were:— Two furrow trailer: E. Begg (Wakanui) 1. Three or more furrow trailer: R. Ward (Irwell) 1, W. N. Begg (Wakanui) 2. Novice: A. D. Begg (Wakanui) 1. Two or more furrow moun ted: A. D. Begg 1. The past president’s trophy for the champion plot in the plain ploughing section was won by E. Begg.
