B. Foster In Form

B. A. Foster (Otago) carried all before him at Timaru last week-end and gained some notable Canterbury scalps on his way to winning the South Canterbury table tennis championship’s men’s singles title. In his last four matches he defeated M. R. Spinks, B. T. Edwards, N. V. Brightwell, and J. Armstrong, and the only one of these four to win a game was Spinks. Foster’s easiest win in the entire championship was against Armstrong in the final, While the only trouble Foster encountered was against Spinks’s enormous loop, Armstrong had a tremendous battle to overcome C. W. C. Tilby in his semifinal. Tilby, a fast loop player who attacks from-all positions on the table, showed the first signs of the form which gained him a New Zealand trial earlier in the season.
