Mao’s Health
Sir, —May I comment on today’s mixed bag? “Christianity .. . will no doubt bypass war.” The history of the past 1900 years is hardly encouraging. Even nominal Christians are still a minority of the world’s population. Rationalism, being less emotional, might be more effective. The next letter, imputing ignorance and unworthy motives to “P.J.A.” is as far from the mark as it could be. The writer’s tendency to vomit indicates the state of his mental health. It was a pleasure to read the third letter, sound, sensible, and moderate. I should have added that the only sound comparison is not between New Zealand and China but between the China of today and that of pre-Communist days.—Yours, etc., RATIONALIST. June 13, 1966.
