Scouts Will Be Boys
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 12. Boys in the Boy Scout movement in New Zealand are likely to remain “boys” in spite of a recommendation from London thrt the word be dropped. A London report says it is thought the word is damaging the public image of scouting.
The area commissioner for the Boy Scout movement in Auckland, Mr J. M. Flower, said today he felt it would be wrong to discard the word. “Scouting' is a boys’ movement created for boys,” he said. “I feel my opinion would be the general opinion throughout the Dominion.” Mr Flower said that all
recommendations made by a 24-man committee which travelled from England to observe the Boy Scout movement throughout the world would be considered by the New Zealand national executive. Where applicable, the committee’s recommendations would be adopted in New Zealand.
