U2 DUE TODAY
To Be Kept In Hangar
Three aircraft to be used in “Project Hicat,” an investigation of atmospheric turbulence, are due to arrive at Christchurch airport from Nandi at 2 p.m. today. They include the celebrated U2 high-altitude reconnaissance plane, a 847 Stratojet and a Boeing military transport.
There will be about 32 persons aboard the three planes. The Boeing will leave on Tuesday. Then only about 16 members of the United States Air Force investigating team will remain at Christchurch. The U2 will be kept in the hangar at all times it is on the ground.
The United States Air Force liaison officer at Christchurch (Captain M. Friedlander) said this was not being done for secrecy but to protect the scientific equipment on board.
He expected the U2 would begin flying on Tuesday afternoon.
Theft From Printers.—When the premises of Caxton Press, 113 Victoria street, were broken into on Saturday night £lO was stolen.
