Pyramus Fit For Brisbane Cup Today

The New Zealand-bred three-jrear-old, Pyramus, ran a magnificent trial for today’s twomile Brisbane Cup when he plough through the heavy going at Eagle Farm on Saturday to win the mile Eagle Farm Stakes. Pyramus carried the topweight of 9-5, and came from an apparently hopeless position a furlong from home to win by a length from 33/1 outsider True Diamond, with Vandour 125/1) a length and a quarter away third. Pyramus, an even money fav- * curite, was giving away 211 b to the minor placegetters. He ’ will drop 261 b to 7-7 in today’s cup and has proved that the heavy going will not upset him. Pyramus, which is currenty joint third favourite for the £BOO6 Cup, will be ridden by the Brisbane apprentice, A. Erhart, who is regarded .as one of the most vigorous light-weights in the city. The Sydney stayer. Tea Biscuit. also ran a great cup trial on Saturday when he finished third behind other cup * candidates. Striking Force and Craftsman, in the 10 furlongs and a half O’Shea Stakes. Tea Biscuit, which will also

drop 211 b in the cup, carried his 9-0 in fine style, making up ground at the finish on the mud-sodden track.

Striking Force won by a long head from Craftsman with Tea Buiscuit a length and a quarter away third. The New Zealand horse, Empyreus, again disappointed and beat only one horse home in the field of seven. He will have to improve greatly to have any chance of a cup place, and has drifted in the betting to 25/1.

The New Zealand-bred Fulman is currently joint 9/2 favourite for the cup with Tea Biscuit. The Auckland Cup winner, Apa, which has shown good form in Brisbane after his Sydney failures, is second favourite. Apa will be ridden by D. McCarthy. who won the first leg of the winter double on Castanea. The field Is:—
