Mischief In a Cemetery
Sir, Visiting Waimairi Cemetery on Saturday at 4.30 p.m., I was appalled to see four children pulling flowers, ribbons, and wreaths off new graves. Two were girls, 12 or 13, and two boys; eight or nine. They were racing across graves, and taking flowers off many. When I told the gravedigger, he said he sees the same thing every day after school, but cannot catch them. Where are the parents of these well-clad but disrespectful children?—Yours, etc., BEREAVED. June 12, 1966.
