Milder Week-end Clear to overcast skies and mild to cool temperatures were characteristic of the weather in Christchurch at the week-end. The maximum temperature was 61 degrees recorded at Harewood at about 3 p.m. on Saturday. On Saturday conditions remained calm until 5 p.m. when a very light southerly wind arose. Throughout Saturday the sky was clear. At 6 a.m. on Saturday, a temperature of 34 degrees was recorded at Harewood. By 9 a.m. the temperature had decreased to 33 degrees but at noon it was 53 degrees. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 51 degrees about 3 p.m. The weather remained cloudy to overcast with a light northeasterly wind early in the afternoon. At 6 a.m. a temperature of 44 degrees was recorded at Harewood. This rose to 45 degrees at 9 a.m. and 50 degrees at noon. The temperature gauge on the Government Life building showed 51 degrees at 4.30 p.m. A frost of 5 degrees was recorded at Harewood on Saturday and on Sunday 3 degrees was recorded. Dearer Oranges Island oranges will be 2d per lb dearer tomorrow. A price order fixes the retail price at Is 3d per lb in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and 21 other cities and boroughs. Elsewhere the price will be Is 3jd per lb. Memorable Day The first member of the Lions Rugby team to have a birthday in New Zealand was C. D. Norris. Club Effort « Members of the Manchester Unity Tramping Club spent the week-end converting an old W r hite Rock farmhouse into a club hut. Both days were spent painting, glazing, plastering and repairing. The club hopes to have the hut ready for opening in September.
