Leaders To Meet In Men’s Hockey
The joint leaders of the senior men’s hockey competition, High School Old Boys and Harewood, meet at Williamson Park today in a match which could decide the championship.
Although Harewood only managed a draw with Sydenham last week-end, the match should be a particularly close one.
Old Boys have shown considerable improvement In recent matches, with more teamwork in attack and greater determination on defence. G. Rothwell gave an encouraging performance on his return to senior ranks last week, while E. Barnes has been showing more sparkle and could be the key man in his side’s attack.
Harewood is determined to atone for its disappointing draw with Sydenham. Its attack contains players who can test any defence. Another match which promises to be close is be-
tween Woolston A and University. Both are at present on 4) points. Woolston A’s best chance of success lies in its ability to attack through the right flank where B. Judge, supported by N. Hobson, should make their presence felt University is an evenly balanced team, capable of producing good hockey. Now that S. Maister, the centrehalf, has recovered from his leg injury, the forward line should be more effective.
Selwyn needs a point from its g»me with Sydenham to stay in the running, and Woolston B will be encouraged by gaining its first point last week against Hagley Old Boys.
