Liability For Dog’s Death In Dosing Rejected

After the death of a dog on the Whitecliffs hydatids dosing strip on April 12, the Malvern County Council received a claim for £5O from the dog owner. At the council’s monthly meeting yesterday, the clerk (Mr B. W. Perrin) reported that he had lodged the claim with the Counties’ Insurance Association.

The association had said that though the council was

covered under its public-lia-bility policy, the claim for loss of the dog could not be met unless wilful negligence by the hydatids inspector (Mr D. Priest) was shown. Unless negligence was shown, liability was declined.

Mr Perrin said he had asked the Malvern Veterinary Club to hold a post-mortem examination. This had been done at WalTaceville.

A report from Wallaceville showed that the dog had had a liver condition which would prevent the detoxification of arecoline, and could not be detected externally. There was no question of an overdose of arecoline. The council decided to send a copy of the report to the dog owner.
