U2 COMING SOON

Advance Party Today

The U2 aircraft to be used by the United States Air Force for upper-atmosphere research is expected to arrive at Christchurch Airport in a few days. It was to have begun its month’s work from Christchurch on June 1, but was delayed. A Boeing Stratolifter longrange jet transport is expected to arrive at Christchurch at 3 a.m. today, bringing several tons of scientific equipment for the project and 11 scientists and technical workers.

The U2 and a Boeing Stratojet would probably arrive within a day or two, although no arrival time had yet been notified, said Captain M. Friedlander, the U.S.A.F. liaison officer in Christchurch, yesterday.
