LEI FIT PROSPECT IN MANAWATU LEG

"The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Lei, a decisive winner in her last appearance at Wanganui, should extend her record further at Awapuni tomorrow in the Palmerston North Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting.

She co'ild prove too fit and speedy for her rivals in the £lOOO feature event

Fleeting Moment again looks a dangerous contender, especially following his laststart success at Trentham. His proven record on the track will ensure him of heavy support. In the Stewards’ Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double, Gus will be having his first taste of open class racing, after winning his last three starts in restricted company. Rivals for Gus include the top-weight, Kintyre, which has exactly a stone more to carry. Although he has run seconds in each of his last two starts Kintyre may not be able to give this weight to his rival. David Jeff, at 8.12, is a danger, especially as he is liable to reduce this weight with an apprentice allowance. He won attractively at both Gisborne and Trentham, but spoilt a chance of rounding out a hattrick at Wanganui last Monday by running about in the straight
