University Team May Tour

A proposal for a New Zealand tour in August or September by a University of Adelaide team containing several Australian Olympic players was outlined to the Canterbury Men’s Basketball Association by the South Island vice-president of the national body (Mr M. A. Henshall) last evening. He said that the tour was still subject to negotiation and that it would only be proceeded with on the understanding that there was a responsible organisation behind the University of Adelaide team with which to deal. The Canterbury association agreed to support the tour and decided to write to the New Zealand Men’s Basketball Association stating that it would be able to stage a match against such a touring team

on August 13, the day it was originally to have played New South Wales. The New South Wales tour has since been cancelled.

Mr Henshall emphasised that the tour was still ver> much in the melting pot. The president of the New Zealand Universities Men's Basketball Council (Mr A. Forrester, of Christchurch) had been approached by a member of the South Australian team which toured the Dominion last season, A. Switajewski, to see if it would be possible to arrange such a tour.
