“Next Move Up To Italian Contractors”

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 9. The next move in reopening negotiations with the Italian tenderer for the Tongariro power scheme tunnels must come from the firm, the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner), seaid today.

Mr Skinner said the F.O.L. had written to the contractors, Codelfa-Cogedar, to advise them that the F.O.L. was prepared to renew negotiations for wages and working conditions. The Prime Minister (Mr

Holyoake) had also been officially notified of the decision made on Wednesday by affiliated unions of the F.O.L. Mr Skinner said the federation’s attitude was no different from when it first decided to halt the talks. He said the Government’s position and attitude had been clarified by the Prime Minister.
