(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, June 8. The United States yesterday urged U Thant to run for a second term as SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations. Vice-President Hubert H. Humphrey came personally to New York to confer with U Thant and make the formal announcement of American support. It was the first official United States statement of endorsement.
U Thant’s present five-year term expires on November 3 and he has promised to say before the end of this month whether he will be available for a further period in office.
