Hurricane In Cuba IN.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) NEW YORK. June 9. Hurricane Alma probably dealt a serious blow to Cuba’s already shaky economy. Washington experts said today.
The storm, they predicted, would not only cut Cuba’s rapidly dwindling foreign exchange earnings by destroying cigar tobacco crops, but would increase the shortage of food, particularly in the Havana area.
Major centres of food and j tobacco production in the j Havana area, and in the ad-1 joining Pinar Del Rio pro-' vince. were battered by the ■ hurricane on Tuesday and j Wednesday.
