Working Hours

Sir, —As an incentive to those who would like to get ahead, I would like to see working hours altered so that we should start at 7 a.m. and finish at 6 p.m. This would give us our five days in four, thus leaving Friday for either a half-day’s or a whole day’s work at overtime rates. There must surely be thousands who hold two positions for whom such an alteration would certainly make a difference. In addition, their taxation saving would be worth-while over a period. The taxation rate between overtime and secondary employment would not be worth consideration on the part of the Government owing to increased production.— Yours, etc.,

A. J. CLYNE. Ashburton, June 8, 1966.
