MAN HELD INSANE

Convictions Quashed

Holding, on medical evidence, that William Hodge, aged 43, a builder, had been insane on January 22, Mr Justice Macarthur in the Supreme Court yesterday quashed convictions against him for wilful trespass and resisting the police on that date. His Honour directed that the charges against Hodge be referred to the Magistrate’s Court for re-hearing—but Mr C. M. Roper (for the Crown) said that they would not, in the circumstances, be proceeded with.

Hodge, for whom Mr J. H. M. Dawson appeared, had appealed against the convictions on the ground of insanity—his appeal having first been heard on April 22, and adjourned, for the consideration of medical evidence, until yesterday.
