Worcestershire, the English county cricket champion and joint leader in this year’s competition, was dismissed for 87 by Warwickshire yesterday and suffered its first defeat since June last year. Worcestershire collapsed against the fast-medium bowler, J. Bannister, who took five wickets for 10 runs in 44 deliveries and finished with five for 32. Results:
At Worcester.—Warwickshire 193 and 199 beat Worcestershire 138/9 and 87 by 167 runs. Warwickshire 12 points. At Tunbridge Wells.—Sussex 200/8 and 159 lost to Kent 226/6 and 137/5 by five wickets. Kent 12 points. At Leicester.—Lancashire 228/3 and 175 lost to Leicestershire 200 and 204/8 18. Booth 101; D. Worsley 4/21) by two wickets. Leicestershire 10 points. Lancashire two.
At Oxford.—issex 258 and 240/7 beat Oxford University 199 and 137 (R. East 4/19, G. Smith 4/34) by 162 runs. At Cambridge.—Northamptonshire 301/7 dec. and 267/1 dec. (P. Willey 78. R. Wills 151 not out) beat Cambridge University 261 and 124 IM. Mohammad 4/16) by 183 runs. At Bristol—Gloucestershire 158 9 and 263 beat Derbyshire 159/9 and 253 <l. Hall 59> by nine runs. Gloucestershire 10 points, Derbyshire two. At Lord s.—Middlesex ton and 234/7 dec. <P. Parfitt 114 not out) drew with Yorkshire 175 and 195/6 <D. Padgett 70 not out). Middlesex two points.
