TWO HOURS DAILY
Hood's Diving Improved "The Press” Special Servlet AUCKLAND. For six days a week over the last five weeks, with supervised training in straight diving for two hours a day and an extra session on Saturdays, the diver R. Hood has been preparing for the Empire Games in Jamaica in August. The entire two hours is taken up with straight diving planned to tidy up minor faults.
His coach, Mr M. Campbell, says that there is definite improvement in the dives especially in the five compulsory dives which are now almost perfect. The mechanics of all dives have now reached a standard higher than that shown at his recent trials.
He is obtaining more stretch in water entry with cleaner approach on the board.
His inward, reverse and back dives now have consistency as has his reverse and one-and-a-half somersault with twist.
His strict application io training has now resulted in top body condition. Although his peak has not quite been reached the training schedule provides for top form to be attained in six weeks’ time. Acclimatisation for the Games should have little effect on Hood, as the humidity at the L. D. S. College Baths, where training takes place, will go a long way toward conditioning him for Jamaica.
