1970 GAMES BID Chch Matches Scots' Offer

The promoters of the 1970 Christchurch Empire Games have decided to offer a 15 per cent travel subsidy to all nations sending teams to Christchurch.

Empire Games Promotion (Canterbury) had already offered a travel subsidy of 121 per cent, with a further 21 per cent should the games prove sufficiently economic to run.

After a revue of the financial prospects of the Games it was decided to offer the full 15 per cent. This brings Christchurch into line with Edinburgh, which had offered 15 per cent in its original application. More Publicity

So far, 3}lb of material has been sent by the promoters to each member of the Commonwealth Games Association. Two more parcels for each are being prepared. The final news letter publication will bring all the member nations up to date with the development of facilities—particularly those relating to the competitor accommodation at Ham and the all-weather track at the Queen Elizabeth II Park. A letter was received yes-

terday from the Jamaican Hotel and Tourist Association. It stated that arrangements had been made for the team of four to promote Christchurch’s application at Jamaica. They have been booked into the Sheraton Hotel, which is only a mile and a half from the main games stadium. Headquarters have been set aside for the promotion team. Arrangements have been made at the University of the West Indies, where the competitors will be accommodated, for a small hall to be set aside for publicity purposes. The university is about two miles and a half from the stadium and about four miles from the hotel.
