Great Opportunities For Y.F.C. Movement Seen
Young farmers could use the young farmers’ club organisation to gain the technical and scientific knowledge needed to enable them to increase production and efficiency to withstand increasing competition, the Dominion president (Mr A. J. GeorgetH) said in his annual report to the conference of the New Zealand FederaHon of Young Farmers* Clubs, whleh opened in Christchurch last evening. “I am convinced that the increases in production which have been achieved in the last two years are only a beginning,” Mr Georgetti said. “More is required and more will be forthcoming, and along with it great opportunities for young farmers and our movement.
“On the other side of the picture, I am sure no-one will have anything handed to
him on a plate, and some will suffer. Economic demands are introducing strong competition into farming, and to withstand this we need to adopt new ideas and practices and to become more efficient. Before we can apply the technical and scientific knowledge which is available to us today we must learn about it, and this is where the young farmers* club provides the answer.”
In its 32 years, Mr Georgetti said, the movement had established a pattern of organisation and activities which offered young farmers opportunities for education, experience, and service.
Absent Captain.—D. Watkins, touring with the British Lions, has been reappointed' captain of the Newport club. This wHI be the third successive season in wMch the Welsh international fly-had* has led Newport.
