Parking Buildings
Sir, —I was interested in “Interested’s” letter on the use of the City Council’s parking facilities, and more so in Cr. H. C. Smith’s reply. I parked my car in the building at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 27, for five hours, again at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday for four hours, and again at 8 a.m. on Friday for five hours at a total cost of 14s. The number of cars parked during the Monday to Thursday full period was 514. If each “parked” paid 5s the total fe< ; would be £l2B 10s. Would Cr. Smith please say if the finance committee is fully satisfied with this return for the amount invested in the cost of the building? Perhaps he might desire to disclose the actual amount received for the four days.—Yours, etc., LOWER FEES, MORE PATRONAGE.
May 30, 1966 [Cr. H. P. Smith replies: “The Manchester street parking building is not paying a fair return for the investment; nor was it expected to do at this stage. The charges are presently under consideration and I think are likely to be lowered.”!
