CHINA AND U.N.
Govt. Attitude Unchanged (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 7. The Government does not support the proposal for China’s admission to the United Nations because the proposal has always included the expulsion of Nationalist China, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said in Parliament today. “The New Zealand Government accepts the fact that the Chinese Communist Government is the effective government of mainland China—and we also know it is pursuing policies that constitute the most serious threat to world peace and security and to United Nations’ objectives," said Mr Holyoake. “There is no doubt that Communist China’s voice mustl be heard and its legitimate, concerns taken into account in any major international negotiations.”
Mr A. J. Faulkner (Opp., Roskill) asked if Mr Holyoake would take any action against a New Zealand firm which was exporting 300 stud sheep to China. “The more trade between the countries of the world is to the benefit of all countries of the world. Our import licences are open to be used in any country of the world,” said Mr Holyoake.
