SAVAGE RIVER DEVELOPMENT

Documents Now Signed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HOBART, June 5. American and Japanese interests today signed the final documents with the Premier of Tasmania (Mr E. Reece) for the establishment of a 62m dollar (£2sm sterling) iron ore export industry at Savage river, north-west Tasmahia. The documents were the formal lease of land at Savage river- and a loan agreement for the development of Port Latta, the industry’s outlet, to accommodate 65,000-ton ships. Production Production is expected about the end of 1967 at the rate of 2,250,000 tons of pellets annually to be distributed among five Japanese concerns. Signatories today were the Premier, Mr W. E. Conway on behalf of Pickands Mather and Company International, Mr T. Okura for Mitsubishi Australia Pty., Ltd., and Mr T. Kaneda for Sumitomo Shoji Australia Pty., Ltd.

Production for the first 20 years of operation has already been sold.
