Dyson Back In Canterbury Side

The high-scoring Burnham player, C. P. Dyson, has apparently impressed the chief men’s basketball coach-selector (Mr L. N. Saunders) with the effectiveness of his hard driving style of play.

Unexpectedly he has been included in the team to meet Otago in the first match of the South Island championship series, to be held at Cowles Stadium on Friday evening.

Dyson, who has represented Canterbury many times in the past, withdrew from the training squad at the begining of last season. It was not known if he would be available this year. He was expecting to be transferred but has now received notification that he will remain at Burnham Military Camp at least until the end of September. His experience should be of great benefit to the team and off-set the absence of the two Americans, C. Walton and M. Busch (both Y.M.C.A.). Walton is not available for the match and Busch, injured

in a club game, will not be able to play again this season.

Dyson has been playing as well as ever this season and so far has scored more than anyone else'in the inter-club A grade competition. He could be a great help to Mr Saunders for he was in line

for the position of selectorcoach until an impending transfer prompted him to withdraw his nomination. He was also a member of the three - man selection panel formed as a temporary measure before Mr Saunders stepped into the breach. Apart from the absence of Walton and Busch, the team lis the same as that which finished runner-up in the Canadian Goodwill Tourament at Blenheim a few weeks ago. R. Entwistle, P. Ross (Y.M.C.A.), M. Askew, C. Morris, G. Williams (University) and A. Hounsell (H. 5.0.8. have retained their places. Entwistle, a South Island representative last season and the only other player apart from Dyson to have scored more than a century of points in the inter-club competition, will captain the side.

Injured.—F. Casey (Brisbane), light heavy-weight and heavyweight boxing champion, will not now fight in Dunedin on June 27. He has a sprained ankle.
