DAFFODIL OPPOSED
“A Freak Of Radiation*’ (Special Crepdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, June 7. Daffodil enthusiasts are planning to oppose the sale in B -Stain of a variety that they claim is a freak of radiation. The Dutch-bred daffodil has been accepted by the Roval Horticultural Society, which has created an exhibition class for it. The new flower is called the split corona, or golden orchid, because the daffodil trumpet folds backs over the petals instead of standing out Dutch growers are planning a big sales drive in Britain this year, marketing the bulbs at £l7 each. The British Daffodil Society ■ays: ‘This flower is not a true daffodil and would be disqualified if entered in any of our shows. We have heard that it has been produced by subjecting the seeds to atomic radiation which produces bigger but malformed blooms.”
