Conditions Of Fellowships
The American Embassy in Wellington has been advised by the American Council of Learned Societies that a programme for American studies fellowships for New Zealand scholars will be initiated next year.
The fellowships are for scholars of no more than 45 who are teaching at university level and who wish to do advanced research in the United States on some aspect of its history, culture, or civilisation.
Appropriate fields will include American history or literature, the geography, economic history, or government of the United States, American art. architectural bistory, or philosophy, or the social structure, political or economic institutions of the United States.
The fellowships are for a minimum period of nine months and may be extended to a maximum of two years. They provide for all expenses, including transport, maintenance, and health insurance for the recipients and their accompanying dependents, as well as the recipients educational and research expenses.
Selection of candidates will be competitive and applications must be received by the beginning of next month. Scholars interested in the fellowships should get in touch with the United States Information Service in Wellington.
