N.Z. SKATING TRIALS
City Entrants Successful (N Z. Press Association) NELSON. Jerry Glover, of Christchurch, won both the men’s 5000 and 10,000 metre track speed roller skating races during New Zealand trials at Nelson yesterday to select a team to compete at the world championships in Spain in October. Glover’s times of lOmin 52.7 sec and 22min 2.3 sec, respectively, are New Zealand records, as this is the first time track roller skating races have been held over these distances in this country. Glover is the national 10mile road roller skating champion.
Phillip Bastion, of Christchurch, was third in the 10,000 metres and second in the 5000-metre race with a time of lOmin 56.8 sec. Robin Alexander, also of Christchurch, won the women’s three miles in an exciting finish in a time of llmin 30.6 sec. Miss Alexander Is the New Zealand holder over this distance.
Glover also won the three miles in lOmin 14.6 sec and Miss Alexander was second in the women's mile.
