WELLINGTON B ON TOP

Marlborough Held Off

Wellington B defeated Marlborough, 9-6, in an entertaining Rugby match at Blenheim yesterday. Marlborough trailed 9-3 at half-time and was on the attack during the second half. The Marlborough backs were repeatedly within yards of scoring but the Wellington defence was good and held firm. J. Gleeson, T. Norton and P. Clark of Marlborough were unlucky not to have been rewarded for their attacking play. R and A. Sutherland were in great form for Marlborough and hooker G. Timms played a first-class game. G. A. Head of Wellington was the best forward on the field and Wellington owed its victory to its fast aggressive pack, ably led by skipper R. Lendrum. A, Adams and B. Koopu scored tries and P. Nichols kicked a penalty goal for Wellington. For Marlborough, P. Clark scored a try and M. McNulty kicked a penalty goal.
