Snell’s Record Beaten

The 19-year-old American runner, J. Ryun, on Saturday night ran the mile in 3min 53.75ec, only one-tenth of a second over the world record, but better than P. Snell’s American record of 3min 54.9 sec.
Running in the Compton invitation track meeting, Ryun beat J. Grelle by about 20 yards. His time was a new American citizens’ record. Ryun set the previous mark of 3min 55.35ec in San Diego on June 27, 1965. The world record of 3min 53.65ec was set at Rennes, by M. Jazy, of France, on June 9, 1965. G. Lindgren equalled the American citizens’ record foi the 5000 metres with a time of 13min 38sec.
