Although the star members Koral and Macdonald are both racing at the Waikato meeting on Saturday, and Turtle ad Eiffel Tower are also in the North Island, W. J. Hillis still has a strong team in work at Riverton. The mission of the quartet in the north will be the Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie in June, where Koral will contest the Great Northern Steeplechase and Macdonald the Great Northern Hurdles. Eiffel Tower will make his first appearance as a hurdler on the trip. Hillis will have a strong team to represent him at southern winter meetings beginning at Winton on Saturday, where he has Istan Light (Hokonui Hurdles), Naratam and Plight (Browns Novice Stakes), Arabian Light (Awarua Hack Handicap), Seven Veils (Benmore Stakes), Mosque (Soldiers’ Memorial Handicap), Helene Maid (Winton Steeples), Westbum (Flying Handicap) and Golden Disc (Limehills Handicap). Hazy Light and Ettrick have been put aside for a spell but Bush Creek will try the steeplechase races at Wingatui next month.
