The Auckland Hospital Board is budgeting to spend! £14.334,269 this financial year —an increase of more than a i third on last year’s xpenditure of £10.630,668. An increase of 200 more occupied beds a day, a 10 per! cent rise in the number of treatments given in special departments, further extensions in the extra-mural services. such as district nursing and meals-on-wheels, account for much of the increase in expenditure. An analysis of the costs of running the four major hospitals shows that for an average stay of 12.6 days, it costs £lO7 17s 6d to treat each patient, compared with £92 3s 2d in 1965.
