Two Top Nursing Posts Filled
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Two top nursing appointments have been announced by the State Services Commission.
Miss S. M. Lowe has been made director of the Division of Nursing to replace Miss A. Orbell, who retired recently, and Miss B. Salmon will replace Miss E. Orbell as principal of the Post-Gradu-ate School for Nurses, Wellington. Miss Lowe graduated at the Dunedin School of Nursing in 1948 where she was the best all-round nurse and gained the highest marks in theory. After graduating Miss Lowe was staff nurse, sister and supervisor at Dunedin Hospital and in 1952 was appointed matron of Parkside Hospital, Dunedin. Five years ago Miss Lowe joined the staff of the Divis-
ion of Nursing. In 1963 she became assistant-director of the division.
Miss Salmon, who graduated at New Plymouth Hospital in 1944, obtained her Plunket certificate in 1952 and also her midwifery in which she received top Dominion rating. Awarded the British Commonwealth Nurses’ War Memorial Fund scholarship, Miss Salmon graduated as a Bachelor of Nursing at McGill University, Montreal, in 1962. A World Health Organisation assignment between 1963 and 1965 took her to Ghana where she helped establish a two-year diploma course. At present Miss Salmon is studying for a master’s degree at McGill University.
