Kanhai Scores Brilliant 192, But W. Indies Held
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter —Copyright) OXFORD. The West Indies were foiled in their bid to gain the first first-class victory of their English tour by Oxford University on Tuesday in spite of a brilliant unbeaten 192 by R. B. Kanhai.
After Monday’s play had been lost because of rain, the West Indies sped to 381 for seven declared by lunch.
At 137 for six the University—one of the weakest firstclass sides in England—was rescued by the left-arm spinner, G. N. Ridley. The tourists tried frequent bowling changes and claimed the extra half-hour in a bid to force victory. However, Ridley remained unperturbed and was 50 not out at the close.
